Ways to donate

Wildlife Rehabilitation is a labor of love.  No one is paid for their work at Gordon Wildlife, including for veterinary or rehabilitation services.  We truly work around the clock caring for these animals and receive no support from the state or federal government. We are entirely self-funded aside from grants and donations.

Any financial donation, no matter how large or small, is deeply appreciated and goes towards the expenses associated with caring for animals in our keep.  We are a federally recognized 501(c)(3) and all donations are 100 percent tax deductible.

Raccoons are extremely labor intensive mammals to raise and rehabilitate. They take an unusually long time to wean, and require bottle feedings (up to eight bottles a day per animal at certain ages) for up to three months in care. Once they are weaned, they must be "wilded up" for several weeks and conditioned for release into the wild.

Our baby season runs from April through October. In addition to time, it costs us between $400 and $600 per animal per season to properly house, feed, and vaccinate each orphaned raccoon in our care. Every little bit makes a big difference to our furry friends!

As a guideline:
$25: covers initial stabilization care for 1 litter

$65: purchases specialized infant formula for 1 raccoon

$100: sponsors care of 1 raccoon from infancy to weaning

$300: purchases solid foods for 1 raccoon after weaning

$500 provides formula, food and vaccines for one raccoon for one season

$1,000 or more allows a donor to permanently name one of our enclosures and includes a commemorative sign worded as you wish

We are also raising money towards the completion of renovations already underway at our wildlife clinic space which will become one of New York State’s only raccoon-friendly wildlife hospitals. We spend more than a thousand dollars per season on Fox Valley Raccoon Milk Replacer which we purchase from Chris’ Squirrels and More.  If you would like to donate formula specifically, we would welcome a gift card from their website store.

Shavings for our enclosures and solid pet foods are purchased locally from DeRuyter Farm and Garden Coop.  You may contact them and ask to make a gift payment towards the account for Gordon Wildlife.

We are always looking for durable human infant toys such as those pictured.  Shop garage sales for gently used items that may be disinfected.

You may also shop our wish lists on Amazon and Chewy.

There are many ways to support us and our work here at Gordon Wildlife.  If you aren’t in a position to make a financial donation but you have time, energy, or skills to share, please check out our section on volunteering.

Leave A Legacy

We are building a legacy here that will provide for the wildlife of New York State long after we are gone.

If you would also like to become an angel for animals, please consider remembering the Charles N. Gordon Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in your will.

The wildlife and we will be eternally grateful.

Our Mission:

The mission of the Charles N. Gordon Wildlife Rehabilitation Center is to provide a knowledgeable, safe and nurturing environment in which to rescue, rehabilitate and release injured/orphaned wildlife found by the members of the Central New York community.  We do this work ourselves on site and also assist other regional wildlife rehabilitators in need by providing veterinary services and other support to their organizations whenever possible.  We are a federally recognized 501(c)(3) specializing in the rehabilitation of raccoons.

Where your donation goes:

No one receives any payment for their work at Gordon Wildlife, including for veterinary or rehabilitation services. Unless instructed otherwise, all donations go entirely towards the costs of caring for animals in our keep. These include food, formula, supplies, medication, bedding, caging and vaccinations. We are a federally recognized 501(c)(3) and all donations are 100 percent tax deductible.

We couldn’t do it without you!

A special thank you to the community members and partners whose dedication and kindness has made Gordon Wildlife what it is today. Without your continued support, we could not carry out our mission to rescue, rehabilitate and educate in our area.
